Almost as immediate as moving your clock ahead an hour for Daylight Saving Time, southwest Michigan sprung into spring with temperatures in the 40's over the weekend - and promises of the 50's this week.

The National Weather Service forecast for Battle Creek suggests the 40's and 50's highs will last all the way through the weekend and into next week. Some other forecasters suggest the entire month of March will bring similar daytime highs.

Mlive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa suggests the forecasts are overstated, given how much snow is still on the ground and how much ice is still covering Lake Michigan. Both, he suggests, will cause cooling that will keep temperatures down.
