A 17-year-old from Battle Creek has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle from Albion, leading multiple police agencies on a chase through Calhoun County, and striking a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputies were contacted 9:25 a.m. Saturday on a report of a vehicle stolen in Albion; last seen entering westbound I-94.

A few minutes later deputies located the vehicle exiting I-94 onto the ramp for Marshall. Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop at Old 27 and I-94 when the driver fled and entered the highway again. The deputy continued to give chase and was soon joined by two Michigan State Police units.

As more Calhoun County deputies and Michigan State Police converged on the area the driver left the roadway then re-entered the roadway, striking a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle. A short time later the driver again left the roadway, this time crashing and rolling the vehicle over.

Following the crash a 17-year-old Battle Creek man was taken into custody and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for Flee and Elude as well as an outstanding warrant for a weapons offense. Further charges are expected related to the theft of the vehicle.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police and Albion Department of Public Safety.
