28-year-old James Smith was in US District Court in Grand Rapids Thursday, and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a charge of sex trafficking of a minor. Prosecutors say that Smith, along with three other co-defendants, forced two 14-year-old runaways into prostitution, gave them drugs and threatened them with violence.

The Battle Creek Police Department was called to the 100 block of E. Kingman Ave. around 2:19pm Monday, to find a 23-year-old Battle Creek man with stab wounds to his chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

The BCPD says that around 4:45am Tuesday, two suspects entered a home in the 600 block of Hamblin Ave. in Battle Creek. The 56-year-old male resident was reportedly beaten and held at gunpoint while the suspects searched the residence.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that around 10pm Saturday, three armed men entered the business on E. Cork St, where one struck the clerk and demanded him to the floor, as a second suspect took cash from the register.

The Battle Creek Police Department says that an officer was flagged down some time before 3:30am Monday by a citizen, who said that several suspects had committed the assault while waving a handgun. Suspect descriptions were spread, and shortly afterwards those involved were located on Battle Creek’s south side.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that just after 2am Monday, deputies were called to the 5000 block of 28 Mile Rd. in Homer Township on reports of domestic assault. Authorities say that a 35-year-old Homer Township man had assaulted his 24-year-old wife, cutting her clothes off with a box cutter and barricading her in a room.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that two men entered the store in the 800 block of W. Michigan Wednesday and pulled out guns to begin threatening the clerk. Reportedly, they assaulted the clerk and threatened to kill him if he did not provide all the cash in the store.
