The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that deputies were searching the area of Michigan Ave. near Bedford Rd. in Bedford Township around 8:16pm Friday, for a suspect who was believed to have stolen electronics from a store in Marshall.
Officers had been attempting to catch someone known for driving on a suspended license, who had fled from them the previous night.Thus, they say, they had probable cause to arrest him.
The chase began when Battle Creek Police Officers were involved in pursuing a vehicle in the area of Goodale Ave. near Washington. Officers called off the chase eventually, but it was believed the vehicle was still in the area.
The incident began Saturday afternoon, where they were notified that Jackson County authorities were chasing a stolen vehicle on westbound I-94 around 2:30pm. Officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of I-94 near the 121st mile marker in Marengo Township, but shortly afterwards a Calhoun County Marine Patrol Deputy spotted two individuals walking along Partello Rd. near 21 Mile.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that around 10:30pm April 29, two victims said that they were approached in an alleyway near the 1200 block of Hays Park, by two men who tried to sell them marijuana. The victims refused, leading to one suspect pulling out a gun and firing a shot into the ground before fleeing on foot; the second suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle and drove off.
Police say Heltzel had been shoplifting from the Meijer store on Beckley Rd. with another man in November 2016; when police attempted to make contact, they instead jumped in a minivan with Heltzel behind the wheel, and sped away.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that they had received reports of a shootout around 3pm Wednesday, at the intersection of Ada and Woodbury Streets. No one was there, but an officer did stick around, and around 4pm he saw a van drive past a home with several shots fired from it.
The Battle Creek Police Department says that they were called to the 200 block of Riverside Dr. around 3pm Sunday on reports of someone firing a gun inside of a residence. Their suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, and the vehicle was spotted shortly after.
