Floodwaters have finally receded in most of Southwest Michigan, but it’s now cleanup time. Many streets in Kalamazoo could have debris on them, and many homes and businesses also need to be assessed for damage.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that they were called to the 500 block of Riverview Dr. just after 11am Sunday, after someone said they saw a dead body. Police say they did find the “obviously deceased” man lying in the water, and recovered the body.
When Kalamazoo put out a call for volunteers to fill sandbags to help protect property as the city's worst flooding in more than 70 years, here are some of the people who heard the call.
The City of Battle Creek says that Friday morning. Union Street just north of Ivanhoe was closed, due to floods. Crews say that a storm sewer is backed up with water from the Battle Creek River. The storm sewer itself is clear, so the situation remains under monitoring.
The Kalamazoo River is set to crest at record levels due to the Flood of February 2018. The city is offering sandbags to residents in an attempt to protect vulnerable property.
