An ice jam formed early in the week near Comstock, forcing the river to go over its banks and flooded some homes. It appeared to break up. But then another formed closer to Kalamazoo.
The National Weather Service has a flood warning posted for the central portion of Kalamazoo County as a result. The river has already been high for the last few weeks, and then went much higher with the heavy rains from last weekend.
It turns out there was once a plan to build a canal linking the Clinton River on the east side, with the Kalamazoo River. This would have ultimately linked Lake Michigan with Lake St. Clair.
NCR Corporation is agreeing to a 25 million dollar settlement to help clean up PCB contamination in the river from the Morrow Pond impoundment west of Battle Creek – all the way to Lake Michigan.
Emmett Township crews were called to the river near Paddler’s Grove between Golden Ave. and Columbia Ave. just after 10pm Thursday; the callers said they were lost floating on the river.
The training will take place all day at various locations along the Kalamazoo River here in Battle Creek; citizens are asked to be aware and to not be alarmed.
At the White House Monday, President Trump said that “great strides” had been made at the Superfund site, even though it was “beyond fix up, they thought it was never gonna happen”.
