Last week, Republican Representatives Steve Marino, Triston Cole and Joseph Bellino introduced House Bills 5843, 5844, and 5845, which would criminalize the production of marijuana resin via extraction, if the person does not have a medical marijuana processor’s license.

A package of bills designed to reform Michigan’s Civil Asset Forfeiture procedure has now been introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives. The Republican sponsored bills would do a variety of things.

Joint Resolution GG, introduced by Republican Martin Howrylak of Troy and co-sponsored by two Republicans and three Democrats, would change Michigan’s Constitution to completely do away with our current two-chamber legislature, and replace it with a unicameral legislature.

The bills would allow for people to register to vote through the Secretary of State’s website. Those attempting to register would need to of course meet the requirements to be a voter, and would also need to possess a Driver’s License or state ID card.

House Bills 5515 and 5516 would remove from the ballot the state board of education members, regents at the University of Michigan, trustees at Michigan State University, and governors of Wayne State University, and also remove those offices from the definition of “state elected official.”

In Michigan, we already pay a 10 cent deposit on bottles and cans of carbonated beverages, a measure introduced 42 years ago in order to incentivize recycling. Now, a measure to spread that deposit to most other drinks is being considered.

A package of bills introduced in the Michigan House Tuesday and co-sponsored by Battle Creek representative Dr. John Bizon would relax some hunting regulations. The primary sponsor for the bills is Rep. Steve Johnson from Allegan County.

Rep. Dave Maturen (R-Brady Township), whose district includes a portion of Calhoun County, is back to work while mostly recovered from an auto crash in June 2017.

Battle Creek’s representative in the Michigan House is already looking ahead to 2018. Republican Representative Dr. John Bizon is currently serving his second term in the 62nd State House District, and is eligible to run for one more term in the House...
