The City of Battle Creek says that as part of an improvement project at the Verona Pumping Station, a city contractor needs to connect a fire hydrant to the 30 inch water main on E. Roosevelt Ave. In order to facilitate that work, Roosevelt would need to be closed between Capital Ave. NE and Wagner Dr.
Workers with the Operating Engineers Local 324 have been working without a contract this summer, and since they can’t come to an agreement with the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, the MITA has decided to lockout Local 324 workers from job sites.
The Citizen’s Road Committee in Emmett Township says on their Facebook page that their goal is to have the citizens of the area come together and work with township officials to figure out how to repair the roads.
The City of Battle Creek says that starting at 7:30am Thursday, the traffic signals in the intersection of Capital Ave. SW and Jackson St. will be turned off and the intersection will be turned into a four-way stop.
According to the Commission's agenda, commissioners will vote on a resolution that would authorize the City Manager to sign a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation for the project, which will have an estimated cost of $743,800; $608,800 will come from the Federal Highway Administration's Surface Transportation Program, with the rest coming from the City.
