A 47-year-old Marshall man has been charged with sexual assault, after authorities say he used his position at an Ingham County high school to abuse a child.

MLive reports that David Hovarter was charged in Ingham County on Tuesday with two counts each of first and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Hovarter is an 8th grade science teacher with Leslie Public Schools, and also is the High School’s cross country coach.

He hasn’t yet resigned his positions, and is currently on administrative leave.

More details aren’t available regarding the nature of the alleged assault as of yet, but the victim is described as a 13-to-15 year old student. Hovarter was released on bond Tuesday, with the first court date set for October 27.
