Tigers Blown Out By the Rays, 9-1
The Tigers lost to the Rays 9-1 on Sunday.
Buck Farmer (2-1) allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, his second straight bad start after two good ones.
Logan Morrison homered twice, including a first inning blast off Farmer.
Steven Souza Jr. hit his first career grand in the third to send Farmer to the showers.
Derek Norris and Evan Longoria also homered for the Rays, who won five of seven in the season series with Detroit.
Jake Faria (3-0) allowed one run, six hits and a walk in seven innings. He struck out a career-high nine.
Alex Avila had two hits, and Justin Upton knocked in the only Tigers’ run.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to fourth place in the Central Division, 4 ½ games behind first place Cleveland, and just a game in front of last place Chicago. The Tigers start a 7 game West Coast trip, taking on Seattle tonight. Anibal Sanchez is back up from Toledo to start for the Tigers. He had one good outing in four starts with the Mud Hens.
