Tigers Break Losing Streak with 7-5 in San Diego
The Tigers salvaged one win on their West Coast trip, beating the Padres in a come-from-behind win on Sunday in San Diego. With the 7-5 win, the Tigers snap an eight-game losing streak.
Detroit got behind early, as starter Jordan Zimmerman gave up 5 runs in four innings of work. But the Tigers came back, tying it with three in the fourth, on a run-scoring triple by Mikie Mahtook, an RBI double by James McCann, and a single by Jose Iglesias.
Nick Castellanos' two-run homer tied it in the 6th, and then Mahtook hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the ninth inning, an opposite-field single into right against Padres closer Brandon Maurer that scored Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton.
Bruce Rondon (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory. Justin Wilson retired the side in the ninth for his sixth save in seven chances.
The Tigers are off today and start a home stand on Tuesday with the Kansas City Royals. They play three with the Royals, four with Cleveland and then the Giants come in next week. Then it’s a three game set at Cleveland leading up to the All Star Break. Broadcast time is 6:45pm on 95.3 WBCK.
