Tigers Trade Closer Soria
Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said the team will look to “reboot” for next season by trading their soon-to-be free agents, and that’s what he did Thursday. Closer Joakim Soria was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for shortstop-outfield prospect JaCoby Jones. Jones is batting .260 with 60 RBI and will begin his career with the Tigers at Double-A Erie.
Earlier on Thursday, the Tigers sent David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays for left handed pitching prospects Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd, and Jairo Labourt. Norris, Toronto's number one prospect, will join Detroit's rotation immediately and is scheduled to start on Sunday in place of Price.
The Tigers could still deal outfielders Yoenis Cespedes and Rajai Davis, catcher Alex Avila, and last night’s starter Alfredo Simon. The trade deadline is 4 p.m. today.
