If you are an avid fisherman, you may need to pay close attention to this article, especially if you like fishing for largemouth bass.

According to WOOD, there are a couple lakes found in Michigan's Lower Peninsula where some largemouth bass have been found with a specific virus.

A while back the Department of Natural Resources had mentioned that in the early 2000s there were some southern Michigan lakes where largemouth bass were confirmed to have a virus. Cedar Lake was a lake mentioned in the study that was done in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.

Well two more lakes have now been identified as lakes containing the virus that include Beaver Lake in Alpena County and Avalon Lake located in Montmorency County. The DNR say they believe the virus to be spreading north throughout the state.

According to the DNR, there are more than 100 different virus that naturally occur in fish. They believe that anglers maybe spreading the virus and not even knowing it by moving live fish that may be contaminated or contaminates getting on the boat or gear.

There is no word on the effect the virus has on humans who eat contaminated fish. Just remember when cooking your fish, make sure the fish are thoroughly cooked before consumption.

The virus found in these large mouth were serious enough for the DNR to issue a fish kill in Cedar Lake in Alcona and Iosco counties. The DNR continue to examine additional lakes in Michigan.
