Battle Creek’s popular Asian fusion restaurant will be seeing big changes sometime soon.

Umami Ramen opened their location at 78 Calhoun St. in November 2016, after they had already built up a fan-base serving their food at the Battle Creek Farmer’s Market. However, the location was less than ideal; Umami says on their Facebook that they were thankful their supporters understood the long lines, limited parking and seating, and issues with heating and cooling.

Many of those issues will soon be solved, though, as owner Peecoon Allen announced on Friday that Umami Ramen had taken ownership of the building at 215 W. Michigan Ave; that location, across the street from the Kool Family Center, had housed Taste of India until that restaurant closed in the spring of last year.

Right now, it’s not clear if Umami is going to move to Michigan Ave, or open up a second location; Allen says that “exiting updates” for both properties are going to be announced in the next few months.

Umami Ramen serves up a variety of noodle dishes, such as ramen, udon, and pho, but they also offer items like a "Korean burrito" and falafel with naan. WBCK's Brandon James took a tour of the place in April 2018, after they won the "best ramen in Michigan" designation from Business Insider.
