Verlander Loses Perfect Game on a Bunt
Some people think it's bad baseball etiquette to break up a no-hitter with a bunt. The Seattle Mariners and Jarrod Dyson probably don't feel too bad about it today.
Justin Verlander was perfect through the first 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 in that span. But that's when Seattle's Dyson pushed a bunt past Verlander for their first hit of the game. A couple of hits and a walk later, and it was 4-3 and Verlander was out of the game.
Reliever Shane Greene was hammered for four runs on three hits and two walks in the 7th. Alex Wilson gave up an RBI single. The Tigers lost Game 3 in Seattle 7-5, their fifth straight loss.
The Tigers scored first on a James McCann home run in the third. Justin Upton’s RBI single in the fourth made it 2-0 and he added two more RBI’s with a single in the sixth with another base hit. Ian Kinsler had a solo homer in the 9th, but the Tigers fell 7-5.
Detroit is now seven games below .500. They're 6 1/2 games out of first place in the AL Central Division. Daniel Norris takes to the mound for the Tigers. Broadcast time is 9:45pm on 95.3 WBCK.
