Victim, Suspect Identified In Suspicious Death In Springfield

Authorities now believe that a man found dead in Battle Creek this week died from an overdose, and his alleged dealer is facing charges.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that 35-year-old Jerell Finch is to be charged Monday with delivery of heroin causing death, lying to police and being a habitual offender. If he’s convicted of these charges, Finch faces life in prison. He was arrested Thursday, after the victim’s dead body was found on 5^th St. in Springfield Wednesday night.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Michael Newman, is believed to have overdosed at a home in the 200 block of Eldred St, although autopsy results are still being sought.
