Vigils Held For 5 Teens Killed In Fiery Kalamazoo Crash
The Kalamazoo community continues to mourn after a horrific crash that left five teenagers dead over the weekend.
MLive reports that vigils were held Saturday and Sunday night, with over 100 people turning out in honor of the teens. This incident continues to be investigated, but the scene has been laid out; a Kalamazoo Township Officer says that just after midnight Saturday morning, he saw a Dodge Charger speeding down E. Main near Sprinkle Rd, and initially began pursuing it.
However, he called the chase off a few seconds later, saying the vehicle was going way too fast, estimated at 100 miles per hour. Shortly afterwards, the car was found crashed into a tree and engulfed in flames. All 5 teens inside were killed.
So far, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has identified 17-year-old Deztanee Cobb and 15-year-old Marshawn Williams, with positive identification of the other occupants still pending. Authorities aren’t saying what, beyond speed, might have caused this crash.
