A tragic Saturday for three children as their Mother died trying to save the family dog in Wyoming, Michigan.

According to WOOD, 38-year-old Tracy Cashman took a walk Saturday night around 8:30 and took her dog with her but never returned home. When Cashman's son returned home he found a wet dog but not his mother.

Family members went to look for her in Battjes Park that is near the intersection of Chicago Drive and Blandford Avenue but when it was too dark to locate their mom they contacted police.

The police arrived around 12:25 a.m. Sunday and found Cashman's body in the icy water. There was an attempt by the fire department of a water rescue but she had already died.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Cashman's mom Rhonda Moore said, "She would have never gone out on that ice if something tragic didn't happen to that dog. I mean, that dog must have broke the ice and gone under or she wouldn't have been out there because she knows better. But it's instinct. If it was a child, she would have gone out there. It was instinct for her."

Cahsman worked for Godfrey-Lee Public Schools for nearly 20 years. She worked with  children for the buses, cafeteria and the playground.

Cashman leaves two daughters and one son behind. If you would like to help out the family and their funeral expenses, a GoFundMe has been set up in her name.
