A woman had to be taken to the hospital Sunday night after her car crashed into a tree near Marshall.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that they were called to the 16,000 block of 21 Mile Rd. in Marengo Township, on reports of a crash that landed a car onto its roof and started a fire. By the time deputies arrived, the fire had been extinguished.

The 28-year-old female driver from Marengo Township had to be extricated by first responders; she was taken to Oaklawn Hospital to be treated, with her condition unknown.

The CCSO says that the car wasn’t registered properly and was uninsured, and that the driver didn’t have a valid license. As well, deputies say speed and prescription drugs are believed to be factors.

The crash remains under investigation.
