You Got My Name Wrong You Get a Zero

Why would a professor give a student a zero on his quiz for not knowing the name of the female lab instructor in the Professors class?  I guess the first question would be why he would even ask that question on a quiz in an earth science class concerning sedimentary rocks.

The Daily Caller is reporting on a Professor at the University of Tennessee who asked the question on a quiz “What is your lab instructor’s name? (If you don’t remember, make something good up)”.

The student said he did not know her name so he answered with a generic woman’s name “Sarah Jackson”.  Sounds like a generic enough name for me, the professor did say make up something good, I would have problem deducted points because the name Sarah Jackson is not something good.

When he received his quiz back he was given a grade of zero with the words “inappropriate” written next to the name.

Apparently the name Sarah Jackson is the name of a lingerie and nude model, and his professor Bill Deane apparently believed he was making a crude sexist joke.  How does the professor know the name of a nude model, interesting?  Also how does the professor know that the student knew that was the name of a nude model and was attributing that name to his lab instructor?

Sounds like the professor is pre-judging this student without knowing all the facts, is that the type of person we want teaching students.  Sarah Jackson is a very common name, just imagine what would have happened to him if he put down the name Hillary Clinton.  He probably would have been ordered to go to a re-education camp or be thrown out of school.

The student asked his professor for a grade change and the professor responded by telling the student that his answer was “outright sexual harassment”.  Sexual harassment, really!

The Daily Caller stated that the professor texted the student the following:

I have no way of determining your intention. I can only consider the result. The result is that you gave the name of Sarah Jackson, who is a lingerie and nude model. That result meets with Title IX definition of sexual harassment. The grade of zero stands and will not be changed.

He is bringing Title IX into this, you have got to be kidding me.  What is going on in our institutions of “higher learning”?

This is just another example of how far the pendulum has swung in the new extremely PC world.
