Battle Creek’s new Fire Chief has now been sworn in, along with several other new firefighters.

The City of Battle Creek says that the ceremony was held Tuesday for Chief Brian Sturdivant, after he was hired on in August. Sturdivant was raised in Battle Creek, and returned after working at fire departments in several other states. He says that he is “truly, truly humbled” to be back, as “it is a very rare opportunity to come back home and serve the community that actually forged and developed me as a young kid growing up."

Also on Thursday, Firefighters Steven Foster, Brock Howland, and Kyle Williams took their oaths of office, after working with the department since July, and firefighters Jake Gray and Jessica Lindquist completed their one-year of probation last week in a ceremony, where they received their black helmets.
