A child was killed and another child and their mother were injured when a car crashed in Calhoun County yesterday.

It happened at around 11:20 in the morning on northbound I-69 near J Drive South.

The 30-year-old Indiana woman driving suddenly went off the road causing her SUV to roll over and hit several trees before landing on its roof.

A 5-year-old girl was thrown from the wreck and was pronounced ‘dead’ at the scene.  A 4-year-old girl was flown to Bronson-Kalamazoo and their mother was taken to Bronson by ambulance.  Hospital officials say the mother and 4-year-old should survive.

State Police investigators say speed was likely a factor in the crash and they are also looking into what child restraints were being used.
