A relatively quiet and mild weather pattern was the setting Friday morning in southwest Michigan, with temperature readings close to freezing. That represents a 40-degree temperature difference from earlier in the week, when early morning temperatures were below zero.

The National Weather Service forecast for Battle Creek calls for milder daytime temperatures this weekend, though some chances for snow showers have crept into the outlook.
