Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek (NIBC) is handing out grants to 29 Calhoun County residents for home improvements, totaling $238,918.

“Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek is proud to help connect these low- to moderate-income residents with grants that will help them make much-needed improvements to their homes,” said Nancy Walker, CEO of NIBC. “This year, we’ve set ambitious benchmarks to help more low- to moderate-income residents than ever before and have accomplished that after exceeding our goal of $200,000 in awarded grants.”

The grants were made available through NIBC’s membership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis. Up to $1 million in grants were available for low- to moderate-income residents to help homeowners rehabilitate or make accessibility improvements to their homes, or help first-time homeowners pay closing costs or a down payment.

“We’re proud to partner with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis to help pump hundreds of thousands of dollars back into the community,” Walker said. “This partnership is among many NIBC efforts to further our vision of promoting stable, healthy homes and neighborhoods.”

Grants ranged from $4,000 to $15,000 and can be used to repair a home, make it more accessible for the elderly or a person with disabilities, or help cover a down payment or closing costs on a new home.

Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek is no longer accepting grant applications. Further funding will be available next spring.
