Calhoun County education leaders are encouraging parents to get their children registered for preschool in the area, which, they say, is critical to socializing children and readying them for kindergarten.

In fact, local educators are reminding folks they may qualify for free or low-cost preschool classes for their kids.

Why is preschool important? They say:

  • More than 85% of of all brain development happens in the first 5 years of life.
  • Preschool aids in socialization and gives children a running start for kindergarten.
  • For low income families, preschool can be free - or low cost.
