Culturally (In)Sensitive Census Changes
Changes may be in store, for the U.S. census that would keep track of where certain Americans came from. The Associated Press reports that Americans from the Middle East and North Africa may soon be counted in their own distinct categories, and not as “white” or “some other race.” The recommendation from the Census Bureau comes at a sensitive time, when President Trump wants to ban travelers from some Muslim-majority nations. The new categories would be counted in 2020.
