KCC has another Black History Month event tonight.   "The Legacy of Sojourner Truth," is a historical theatre re-enactment focused on Sojourner Truth, who lived in Battle Creek for many years.  The two-hour show starts at 6:30pm tonight.  (Thursday, Feb. 23).

Truth will be portrayed by actress Dr. Daisy Century of the American Historical Theatre in Philadelphia. Century will bring Truth's history alive by weaving elements from her life from beginning to end into the performance, educating and inspiring the audience while entertaining at the same time.

Truth, an abolitionist, author and civil and women's rights activist, was born into slavery as Isabella Baumfree in 1797 and became an outspoken abolitionist after escaping to freedom in 1826. She died in Battle Creek in 1883.

Trained as a teacher but called to the performing arts, Century earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Claflin University, a master's degree in science education from South Carolina State University and an Ed.D. from Temple University, also in science education.

A performer known for her thoroughly researched, dramatically intense portrayals of historical figures, Century has performed at numerous schools, libraries, museums and historic sites throughout the United States. In addition to her dramatic work, she is also an author and accomplished singer.
