We’ve all seen the panhandlers in front of Walmart at the light on Beckley Road.   You never know if they’re truly in need, or just running a scam.   Well, today, (Christmas Eve, 2018) the guy you see out there at 3pm won’t be panhandling.  In fact, just the opposite.

Jim Hughes wanted to do something special this Christmas, and has come up with an interesting way to do it.   Jim, who has a full beard and dresses up as the “Jolly Old Elf” for Christmas parties, will be out there in full dress today, and he’ll be passing out envelopes to children.   Jim says he’ll have 100 envelopes, each with a nice surprise for the first 100 children he sees.

The Galesburg native, who did High School Football games on 95.3 WBCK in 2016 and 2017 just wanted to do something to make a difference.  He says if he sees kids in the car as they approach the light at Beckley Road (B Drive N) in front of Walmart and Lowe’s in Battle Creek, he’ll hand them an envelope through the car window, until all 100 envelopes are gone.

Jim cautions that kids should not get out of the car.  He’ll start passing them out at 3pm today…Christmas Eve.
