Local Woman Killed in Times Square
A Portage teen on a trip to New York City with her family was struck by a car on a sidewalk and killed on Thursday.
The New York Post reports that 18-year-old Alyssa Elsman from Portage was killed in the crash.
According to mlive.Com, Alyssa Elsman was struck and killed by the motorist as she strolled down a sidewalk, on Seventh Avenue, with her 13 year-old sister, Ava, who was also injured. Ava’s condition is unknown.
Alyssa was a 2016 graduate of Portage Central High School and a carhop at Sonic Drive-In in Portage.
Police do not believe that it was a terror attack, instead they have called it an accident.
The man driving the vehicle, 26-year-old Richard Rojas, reportedly made a U-turn down a car-free street, and then drove for several blocks, hitting more than a dozen people.
People from all over have begun posting condolences on Elsman's Facebook page.
