The Red Wings beat the Flames 8-2, getting revenge for last Thursday’s loss in Calgary.  The Red Wings raced out to a 4-1 lead in the first period, which included a short-handed goal by Dylan Larkin.  Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou each scored twice.  Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader and Luke Glendening also scored for Detroit.  Jimmy Howard stopped 26 shots for the win.   The game featured a brawl, which could result in some suspensions. In the center of the brawl were Red Wings' forward Anthony Mantha and Travis Hamonic of the Flames.  It happened during the third period.The Red Wings host the Sabres on Friday night.

MAC Football

Northern Illinois scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Western Michigan 35-31 on Wednesday night.  Jordan Huff ran for two touchdowns and a career-high 185 yards.   The game was tied at 28 early in the fourth quarter.

The Broncos play at Toledo a week from Friday.

Eastern Michigan beat Miami of Ohio 27-24.

Pistons

The Pistons five-game win streak ended with a 99-95 loss in Milwaukee on Wednesday night.  Milwaukee blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter before winning their fourth in a row.  Avery Bradley's 28 points led the Pistons.  Andre Drummond had 13 points and 17 rebounds.  Stanley Johnson returned after missing the previous three games with a right hip flexor strain but had just two points on two shots in 18 minutes.  Khris Middleton scored 27 points for the Bucks.   Milwaukee blocked 16 shots.  The 10-4 Pistons visit the Indiana Pacers on Friday after beating them last Wednesday.

KCC Basketball

The KCC’s Men’s basketball team lost 93-52 at Henry Ford Community College last night.

Cy Young Winners

Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber has won his second American League Cy Young Award, three years after first capturing the award.  Boston's Chris Sale finished second and Luis Severino of the New York Yankees was third.

Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer is the National League Cy Young Award winner for the second straight year, beating out Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw.  It's the third Cy Young for Sherzer, who also claimed the American League honor for the Tigers in 2013.

College Basketball

WMU hosts Tulsa in men’s basketball tonight.

Michigan hosts Southern Miss.

MSU hosts Stony Brook this Sunday at 4pm.  I have two tickets to Sunday’s game at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

Volleyball

Bronson faces eighth-ranked Calumet in a rematch of last year's state volleyball semi-final on Friday at Kellogg Arena.

High School Football Playoffs

Harper Creek plays Muskegon at East Kentwood on Saturday with a chance to go to the state finals on November 25th at Ford Field.  We’ll have the game on the radio this Saturday at 12:35pm on 95.3 WBCK.

Big 10 Football

Lions

The Lions head to Chicago this Sunday.    Detroit offensive lineman T.J. Lang participated fully in practice after missing last weekend's game against Cleveland because of a concussion. Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah missed practice because of a back injury, and running back Dwayne Washington was out with a hip problem.  Receiver Kenny Golladay returned last week after being sidelined with a hamstring injury. Detroit will play the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving Day. The Vikings lead the division at 7-2.  The Lions and Packers are 5-4.
