Tigers

Tigers opened a four-game set with the Royals last night with a 16-4 win in Kansas City. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, and added three in the fourth. Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Torii Hunter each had three RBI, while Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos and Eugenio Suarez all batted in two runs.  Detroit blew the game open with an 8-run fifth. And they added even more runs for their biggest total of the season. Drew Smyly got the pitching win for Detroit, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out two in six and two third innings. Donnie Kelly picked up a couple of hits in his second straight start.  The Tigers lead the Royals by five-and-a-half games in the AL Central.   Anibal Sanchez starts for Detroit tonight.…..7:45pm on WBCK-FM.

All-Star Final Picks

Tigers Pitcher Rick Porcello came in third in the All Star Final Vote.  White Sox starter Chris Sale won the final spot on the American League roster and Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo took first place in the National League.  The Tigers will be represented in Tuesday’s All-Star Game by first baseman Miguel Cabrera, designated hitter Victor Martinez and pitcher Max Scherzer.

Bombers

The Bombers lose in Green Bay…9-0 the final.  Dakota Mekkes gave up just one earned run in 4 innings, striking out 7 but walking 3.   Spencer Thornton and Matt Dacey combined for all but one of the Bombers’ 5 hits.  Those same two teams play tonight in Green Bay. Zach Ryan gets the start for Battle Creek.  They head back home tomorrow to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks.  Battle Creek is 8th place in the South Division, just a half-game ahead of the last-place Kalamazoo Growlers.

Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are 3-1 in Orlando, and finish their Summer League against the Magic tonight.

Red Wings

Dan Cleary will be back on the ice for the Red Wings this season.  Yesterday, the team announced they had signed the forward to a one-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth one-point-five million dollars.

Coyotes Play This Saturday

The Battle Creek Coyotes Football team takes on the Allen County Lions at Harper Creek High School on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6:30.  Proceeds from the gate admissions, donation jars, and 50/50 raffle will help four-year old Nattaly Marie Brown in her battle against cancer.

World Cup

The World Cup final is set for Sunday:  Germany will take on Argentina.   The Netherlands squares off with Brazil in the third-place match on tomorrow.

NFL Rankings

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning ranks number-one in the NFL Network's Top One-Hundred Players of 2014.  Lions’ wide receiver Calvin Johnson came in right behind Manning in the rankings followed by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy.
