Women Paid Less Than Men, Really
Once again another group and news media organization is spreading inaccurate numbers and false news.
The National Partnership for Women & Families will release a fictional report today, Equal Pay Day. Why do I use the word fictional, because they are not comparing men and women working in the same job, with the same amount of:
- Education
- Job related experience
- Time with the company, seniority
- Time on the specific job
This is the same bogus argument we have been fighting for years. It must tell you something when a group and news organization refuses to compare the numbers accurately and ask the right questions.
The Detroit Free Press news report states the following:
Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit analyzed the gender wage gap in each state. Michigan, which came in 20th place for the largest cents-on-the-dollar gap in the nation, pays women, on average, 78 cents for every dollar paid to a man. This is a yearly difference of $11,044. The national average is 80 cents — or an annual yearly difference of $10,086.
How did they come up with those numbers, well simply by taking all the women who work in Michigan and they came up with an hourly rate paid to them. They then took all of the men who work in Michigan and came up with an hourly rate paid to them. They then compared the two.
Do you see the obvious flaw in their argument?
That would be the same as an eighteen year old man or woman straight out of High School who was hired at an entry level position comparing themselves to the CEO of the company. It really is as simple as that.
When you do not compare apples to apples you can come up with all kinds of useless data.
Once again the adults have to explain to the teenagers where their logic is in correct. How can you seriously deal with people or groups who refuse to use real logic and data to attempt to determine if there is a problem and ways in which to correct it?
