A penny portrait of our nation’s sixteenth president was one of two projects, awarded the top prize on Friday, at the ninth annual international ArtPrize competition in western Michigan. The Associated Press reports, “A.Lincoln” was constructed of more than 24,000 pennies, and Richard Schattler, of Battle Creek, was awarded one of two, $200,000 grand prizes, following a public vote. The other prize went to Seitu Jones' “The Heartside Community Meal,” which welcomed 250 residents to a 300 foot table in Grand Rapids’ Heartside Park for a healthy, locally grown meal.
