Former Portage Teacher Bound Over To Trial

A former teacher at Portage Public Schools has now been ordered to stand trial on several sex crimes, including new child porn charges.

40-year-old Corey McNeal appeared in a Kalamazoo County Court Wednesday, for a preliminary hearing.  He’s facing 4 counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of distributing sexually explicit material to a minor.

These charges stem from an alleged relationship McNeal had with a female student in the district, between the ages of 16 and 18.  McNeal was a physical education teacher at Portage Central Elementary, and before that, the head coach of Portage Central High School basketball team.

He resigned from his position on December 18.

His next court appearance will be February 16 in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court.
