Tigers

It was a brilliant pitching duel between the Tigers’ Anibal Sanchez and the A’s Scott Kasmir.  Kasmir went 9 innings and only made one mistake: a solo homer by Torii Hunter in the 4th.  Sanchez went 8 shutout innings, striking out 9.  But in the 9th, closer Joe Nathan gave up a double to Cocoa Crisp, and John Jaso reached base on a play that 3rd sacker Nick Castellanos should have made, and then Josh Donaldson ended it with a 3-run walk off homer.  It was Nathan’s 4th blown save of the season. Outfielder Rajai Davis bruised his shoulder making a diving catch in the second inning and later left the game.  He’s day-to-day.  Detroit sends Rick Porcello to pitch today in the series finale in Oakland.   Broadcast time is 3:10 on WBCK-FM.

NBA Playoffs

The Indiana Pacers live to see another day. Behind 37 points from Paul George, the Pacers bounced the Heat, 93-90, in Game Five of the Eastern Conference Finals.  Miami failed to close out the series as LeBron James only played 24 minutes and didn't reach double digits in the playoffs for the second time in 151 career playoff games.  James had a chance to tie it up in the final seconds.  He was driving to the net but passed it off to Chris Bosh, who missed a three-pointer from the corner.  The Heat still lead the series 3-2 and will try to avoid going back to Indiana by winning Game Six Friday in Miami.  The Oklahoma City Thunder are in San Antonio for Game Five tonight, with that series tied at 2.

NHL Playoffs

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks are still alive.  Michal Handzus scored the game-winning goal 2:04 into double-overtime as the Blackhawks clipped the Kings 5-4 in Game Five.  Game Six is Friday in LA.

Montreal and the Rangers in shift back to Madison Square Garden for Game Six on tonight. The Rangers still own a 3-2 advantage. Rangers’ defenseman John Moore will miss the remainder of the team's contentious Eastern Conference finals series with the Montreal Canadiens for committing an illegal check in Tuesday's Game 5.
