Tigers   

The Tigers swept the Colorado Rockies with a 4-0 win Sunday atComericaPark.  Rajai Davis had two more hits in the leadoff spot and scored the first run for the Tigers. The big hit came in the 4-run fourth, from Victor Martinez.  V-Mart hit his second three-run homer in as many days.  Anibal Sanchez went 7 shutout innings. He gave up two hits, struck out 12 and walked none. In the three-game sweep, Justin Verlander, Rick Porcello and Sanchez combined for a 1.57 ERA with 27 strikeouts and two walks in 23 innings.

New Tiger pitcher David Price will pitch Tuesday in New Yorkagainst the Yankees.  Max Scherzer will go for his league-leading 14th win.  The Tigers at the Yankees tonight…..Broadcast time is 6:40 on WBCK.

Bombers

The Bombers held on to beat the Waterloo Bucks 9-8.  Luke Heller, fromCornerstoneUniversity, went 5 1/3 innings for the win, giving up just one run, in spite of 5 walks.  The Bucks scored 7 runs off the bullpen after Heller departed, but Joe Mockbee put out the fire for the save.  MSU’s Anthony Cheky went 3 for 5 in the leadoff spot.   The Bombers road trip continues tonight against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

Coyotes Win Again

The Battle Creek Coyotes romped to a 65-6 victory over the Toledo Raiders Saturday night in front of their largest crowd of the season at AthensHigh School. Dev Haliburton scored his first rushing TD of the season to go along with three TD catches from QB Jake Hart, as the Coyotes clinched a playoff birth for the first time since 2010.  The 7-2 Coyotes finish the 2014 regular season next Saturday evening at HarperCreekHigh Schoolagainst the Michiana Thunderhawks.

PGA Golf

Rory McIlroy picked up another victory and Tiger Woods made another early exit.  McIlroy overtook Sergio Garcia in the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational for a two-stroke win. McIlroy shot a 4-under 66 and a 15-under total and earned over $1.5 million dollars. He also reclaims the No. 1 ranking from Adam Scott. Woods had to withdraw following his tee shot on the ninth hole. He injured his back playing a shot  from edge of a bunker on the par-5 second hole and took himself out of the tournament after eight holes. Woods did not say whether he would be able to play the PGA Championship atValhallanext week.

Nascar

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has become the first driver to sweep Pocono Raceway since Denny Hamlin in 2006. Earnhardt started ninth and led for just 14 of 160 laps in winning the GoBowling.com 400. He held off Kevin Harvick over the last two laps and earned his third win of the season.  Harvick finished second to lock up a spot in the Chase for the Championship.  Joey Logano was third, followed by Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon.  Some drama near the end of the GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono on Sunday….

Soccer at the Big House

Manchester United picked up a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in their International Champions Cup match at Michigan Stadium on Saturday.  The 109-thousand plus crowd was the largest to ever attend a soccer game in theUnited States.

Monroe to Leave Pistons?

Yahoo! Sports reports that the Pistons and forward Greg Monroe have been working on putting together a sign-and-trade deal and  that Phoenixand Atlantaare two teams that they have discussed a possible deal with.  Monroehas stated that he does not want to return to Detroitdespite Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy publicly expressing his desire to keep him in the MotorCity.  The four-year player averaged 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds last season.

Wolverine Receiver Tossed by Coach Hoke

Michiganwide receiver Csont'e York has been suspended indefinitely. Coach Brady Hoke released a statement Sunday sayingYorkfailed to meet "team standards" and will not report for fall camp. Hoke says every person in the program has to represent the school and the football program the right way on and off the field. Yorkappeared in one game as a reserve wide receiver as a freshman last season.

Bills Sale-Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi has gone directly to the media to let Bills fans know he would keep the NFL team inBuffaloshould he win the bidding for the club. His letter in The Buffalo News today marks the first time the rocker has publicly discussed his plans regarding the Bills. He says his group is committed to working with state and local officials to identify a new stadium site in the region. Bon Jovi added that it's his intention to carry on the legacy created by Ralph Wilson, the team's original owner.  The Bills are for sale followingWilson's death in March.
