Sports Roundup: Wings beat Boston, 3-2
Red Wings
The Red Wings beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 in Detroit. Tomas Tatar scored first for the Wings to tie it up. But the Bruins pulled ahead again. The Wings came back with two goals in the third period with Tomas Jurco and Gustav Nyquist finding the net.
Jimmy Howard made 33 saves in the win. With 86 points, the Wings remain in the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets, with six games left. Detroit will host the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night.
Pistons
The Pistons lost to the Indiana Pacers 101-94 last night. The Pacers are percentage points behind the Heat for the top-seed in the East. Josh Smith led Detroit with 24 points. Greg Monroe added 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Rodney Stuckey contributed 16 points. The road trip continues as Pistons will head to Brooklyn to take on the Nets tomorrow.
Tigers
The Tigers beat the Royals 2-1 in 10 innings at Comerica Park. Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to put Detroit up 1-0. In the bottom of the tenth, Kinsler came up with another big hit and singled in the winning run. Starter Max Scherzer scattered four hits while striking out seven over eight innings for a no-decision, and got tougher as the game went on. Detroit held a 1-0 lead until the ninth when closer Joe Nathan allowed Kansas City to tie the score. Al Albuquerque got the win in relief.
In the series finale this afternoon, the Tigers send Anibal Sanchez to the mound against the Royals. Broadcast time is 12:40 today on WBCK-FM.
College Basketball Tournaments
The Men’s NIT basketball finals will be tonight with SMU and Minnesota playing at Madison Square Garden. In the Women’s NCAA Tournament, UConn will face Stanford and Notre Dame will play Maryland on Sunday in the Final Four in Nashville. The NCAA Men’s Tournament resumes Saturday in Dallas, with Florida against Connecticut and Wisconsin versus Kentucky.

Lakeview swept Otsego 12-2 and 14-4 to start the girls’ softball season. Kayla Callaway and Shayna Starring with wins on the mound. Bree Ashley had 5 hits.
Boys Baseball
Lakeview swept Otsego in baseball, 11-1 and 9-8. Jake Herbers was the game 1 winner. Trevor Underwood knocked in 3 runs in game 2.
MSU Gets Star Player
The MSU football team has a commitment from a five-star defensive end. Malik McDowell, from Southfield, tweeted Wednesday morning that he signed his national letter of intent with the Spartans just minutes before the deadline.
Griffins’s Selfie on Twitter
Grand Rapids Griffins center Mitch Callahan is getting a good amount of attention on Twitter after posting a selfie during last night’s victory over Iowa. Callahan took a puck to the mouth in the first period and posted a selfie on Twitter from inside the locker room about 15 minutes after he lost several teeth on the ice. The bloody photo had been retweeted over 45-hundred times within hours. The sports website Deadspin also picked up the story.
