Police say Heltzel had been shoplifting from the Meijer store on Beckley Rd. with another man in November 2016; when police attempted to make contact, they instead jumped in a minivan with Heltzel behind the wheel, and sped away.

45-year-old Jeffery Crouse had been arrested last October after he crashed his car while off duty; he was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence.

29-year-old Matthew Steppenwolf had been charged with multiple felonies, including armed robbery, arson, carjacking and firearms crimes; last week, he pleaded guilty but mentally ill to those charges, with other felonies being dropped, including ethnic intimidation.

The Battle Creek Police Department says that they were called to the 200 block of Riverside Dr. around 3pm Sunday on reports of someone firing a gun inside of a residence. Their suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, and the vehicle was spotted shortly after.

Calhoun County investigators have now found the vehicle they believe to have been involved in a crash that left a man seriously hurt. They also were able to identify their suspect, although they aren’t saying if he has been arrested.

33-year-old Nicholas Wilson had been walking along the train tracks parallel to Dickman Rd. when he was struck by a train near the McCamly St. crossing. His death has been ruled an accident.

A crash in Calhoun County that took place Christmas Eve has now resulted in a death. The Michigan State Police say Thursday that a vehicle travelling southbound on Marshall Rd. near the Calhoun/Branch County line lost control and slid into the path of a northbound vehicle, causing a collision.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputies had attempted a traffic stop on a red Ford pickup around 11:30pm Thursday, on Avenue A near Sundown St. in Springfield. The driver stopped to let out a passenger, before beginning to flee.

Officers responded to the area of 6 Mile and Hill Roads in Battle Creek around 10pm Thursday, and found a vehicle that ran off of the roadway. The vehicle’s only occupant, a 45-year-old woman, was badly hurt.

A Kalamazoo man who was killed after he was struck by a vehicle has now been identified. According to Kalamazoo Township police, 81-year-old John Simpson had been crossing W. Main St. near Solon on Tuesday, when a westbound vehicle crashed into him;
