A Battle Creek woman was arrested on Thanksgiving after she allegedly left her child unattended while shopping.

The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety says they were called Thursday to the Harper Village shopping area off Beckley Rd, where they found a 3-year-old child locked inside a vehicle by themselves. Officers did manage to break into the vehicle, and get the child out unharmed.

After around an hour, the 41-year-old mother walked out to the vehicle, and was arrested. The child was turned over to family members pending investigation, while the woman was lodged in jail on a child abuse charge.

Arraignment is expected soon.
