Western Michigan University is making a commitment to help more students prepare for and graduate from college.

The school's President John Dunn says he wants to help high school guidance counselors do their jobs better.

He says the university's pre-service counseling students will be required to take a new course in school counseling for postsecondary and career readiness. The course will be offered online to students at other schools and counselors already working in Michigan schools.

Dunn is among Michigan education and nonprofit leaders participating in a White House college opportunity summit.
