Rain made its way to the area Wednesday afternoon, but the Battle Creek Bombers hopes of winning were washed away early.

The Lakeshore Chinooks were up 6-0 in the fourth inning before a storm swept through. They would another run after the rain delay to conclude the inning, on their way to a 9-1 game.

The loss puts the Bombers at 0-2 on the season, dropping them to the defending Northwoods League champs.

Matthew Simmons (Gardner-Webb) drove in the lone run for the Bombers, with Dan Swain (Siena) getting two of the team's four hits.

Nathan Witt (Michigan State) was pounded for seven runs on 12 hits in three innings of work to take the loss for BC.

A two-game home-and-home series awaits Thursday, as they host the Kalamazoo Growlers on Thirsty Thursday. The two teams are looking for their first win of the season. The Growlers have been outscored 27-5 in the first two games to the Madison Mallards.

Michael Petersen (0-1, Riverside City College) will get the start for the Bombers after taking the loss Tuesday in relief. Gabe Gunter (Shelton State) gets the nod for the Growlers. First pitch is at 7:05pm!
