Hummingbirds are one of the most unique and interesting varieties of birds and an opportunity is coming up next week in Augusta to see them up close and learn about them too. A hummingbird banding demonstration is taking place at the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary on Tuesday, August 21st. Bird-banding experts Brenda and Rich Keith from the Kalamazoo River Valley Bird Observatory will host the event and hopefully give those attending a chance to see some hummingbirds up close.

Hummingbird banding takes a great deal of skill. Brenda Keith is one of the only hummingbird banders in Michigan. A banding demonstration will take place in the Sanctuary’s pollinator garden, accompanied by an informational slideshow in the auditorium on the research and data collected through hummingbird banding.
