One of the longest debates in Michigan is when the right time to start celebrating Christmas. Many people feel that as soon as Halloween is over it’s time to string up the Christmas lights and listen to holiday music.

Other people feel Halloween should be extended a little bit. I myself started celebrating Christmas a little bit early back when the pandemic began in 2020, but since then dial it back, until after Thanksgiving, which is when most people start celebrating. But downtown Kalamazoo isn’t waiting for anybody as Candy Cane Lane has returned a Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo.

Candy Cane Lane Returns To Bronson Park For 2023

The annual tradition is the first signs of Christmas to go up in Branson Park, which will soon be followed by Christmas lights and the eventual Christmas tree lighting, which will be happening on Black Friday, November 24 at 5:00 PM. The return of Candy Cane Lane does beg the question of whether or not you feel we celebrate Christmas a little bit too early here in Michigan.

Where Did The Old Candy Canes In Bronson Park Go?

Downtown Kalamazoo already sparked controversy when they replaced their sleeker yet older candy cane molds with the new tall, rigid ones that people still do not appear to be a fan of. We are 2 1/2 weeks away from the tree lighting ceremony so it makes sense that Christmas is finally coming together in downtown Kalamazoo.

For you, what's the perfect time to start decorating and celebrating the holiday season, or do you start at a different time every year? Let us know in the comments section of our Facebook post. Until then, take a look at Bronson Park lit up from a few years back...
