Michiganders: Those Viral Stanley Cups Are Potentially Poisonous

The headline is a little scary, and yes, it's meant to get your attention, but the reality is that those viral status symbol cups that go by the name "Stanley," actually do have a secret that you should be aware of.

In fact, there's something inside these cups that if not properly taken care of, could cause you serious harm, and make you very sick.

Obviously, if you've spent any time on the internet, you know what the Stanley Cup is. Those 30oz and 40oz cups have taken the U.S. by storm, to the point that one woman was even caught trying to steal thousands of dollars of them.

Needless to say, you definitely know someone who managed to get one of these ridiculously popular cups. But there's a potentially deadly chemical in the cups that, if not taken care of properly, could be very bad for your health.

NBC News confirmed that every Stanley Cup made contains lead, and it's used in the manufacturing process. However, the company claims that the only way anyone would be at risk of exposure is if the bottom of the tumbler comes off and exposes the led pellet that's used to seal the cup's vacuum insulation.

Stanley assured the chances of this happening are rare, but if it does, to contact the company and have it replaced, as it is protected by a lifetime warranty.

Signs of Lead Poisoning

Lead is a naturally occurring heavy metal on earth, but can cause serious health risks if it gets introduced into the human body. For years, the country used lead for water pipes, until it was revealed that lead pipes, and lead-based paint were hazardous.
