It took a while, but the 2016 Kickball Classic happened last night at Bailey Park's Convis Fields.  The event had to be postponed  July 24th when thunderstorms rolled through Battle Creek.  Last night, teams from the community played kickball with the All-Stars from Community Inclusive Recreation.  The Battle Creek Organization has worked for many years to further their mission: To with local organizations to make educational and recreational programs fully accessible to children and adults with disabilities.

Organizers Vince Pavone and Patti Horn of Lakeview Ford-Lincoln say the event had over 50 participants and 200 players and raised $20,000 for CIR.

WBCK, 104.9 The Edge, and Scene Magazine teamed up to form an "All-Media-Manic" team, and we had great help from CIR All-Stars Wesley, Christie, and Kathy.  Wesley and Kathy were our star pitchers, and Christie kicked up some dust and streaked around the bases in her super-charged base-running vehicle.

County Commissioner Steve Frisbie came out to fill in at the last minute, and was a great addition to our team.   He made great plays, and went the extra mile to help out the All Stars to make it their night, and used his Lifecare Ambulance skills more than once to help injured players.

"Renk" came out, played hard, and we hope he'll be able to walk again soon.

New Grandma and second baseman Sheri Sherban, of Scene Magazine, brought out some really great players and pictures of the new grand-baby. New Grandma and second baseman Sheri Sherban, of Scene Magazine, brought out some really great players and pictures of the new grand-baby.

Our team won it's first game against the Battle Creek Enquirer, 10-6. We lost to eventual tournament winner BCMAMS (Battle Creek Metropolitan Area Moustache Society), 28-22.   "Dirty" Dave Bradley's crew came out sporting a lot of facial hair and a big desire to win, but they all made it fun. They beat Lakeview Ford in the finale. Lakeview Ford beat Battle Creek Parks & Recreation to get to the championship game.

Gallagher Laundry won the team sportsmanship award.
