A 69-year-old Battle Creek man was killed, Tuesday afternoon, when he struck a semi-truck, on his motorcycle, in Emmett Township. His name is being withheld until family can be notified.

Public Safety Officers, from Emmett Township, were dispatched at 12:45 PM to the intersection of East Michigan Avenue and Wheatfield Parkway where they found the cyclist dead from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Preliminary investigation showed that the motorcycle was traveling west on E. Michigan Ave and the semi-truck east on E. Michigan Ave. The cyclist struck the semi as it was turning onto Wheatfield Parkway from Michigan Ave.

The driver of the semi, a 50-year-old man from Dearborn Heights, was not injured.

The accident forced the closure of east and west-bound M-96 for several hours. The roadways were cleared by 3:30 p.m.

Emmett Department of Public Safety was assisted by the Calhoun County Sheriff Department, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Calhoun County Road Department and MDOT.
