A house and a garage were destroyed in a fire that broke out early Tuesday morning north of Union City near Turtle Lake.   in Calhoun County’s Burlington Township.

The fire at 835 Turtle Lake Road in Burlington Township, is just south of the Turtle Creek Golf Course.  It was reported at about 2:15 a.m..

Burlington Township Fire Chief Ken Yeakey says the fire was found in a wall next to a television.   He says a man and woman in the house got out and reported the fire from a neighbor’s house.

The residents woke up and smelled smoke.  Crews from Burlington, Union City, Athens and Tekonsha all fought the blaze for several hours and had to come back later in the morning to put out a few hot spots.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall division.

A dollar estimate on the damage has not been released.
