‘Star Wars Rebels’ Sets Billy Dee Williams to Return as Lando Calrissian
As if James Earl Jones’ return as Darth Vader and Frank Oz’s Yoda weren’t enough to remind you ‘Star Wars Rebels’ takes place in an era closer to the original trilogy, Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian will seal the deal. The galaxy’s smoothest smuggler will make his debut on an upcoming episode of the Disney XD animated series, but does it mean a trip to Cloud City is in order?
Twitter users and ‘Star Wars’ news contributors put the word out about Calrissian’s appearance in January 19 installment “Idiot’s Array” (h/t SuperHeroHype), noting that the future Cloud City leader will score the Ghost’s own Chopper from Zeb during the course of, what else, a game of Sabacc. From there, the group will undertake a merry adventure with Calrissian in tow to return the droid home.
Of course, there’s no telling if Williams’ reprisal of the role will have any payoff for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ but the sheer number of original trilogy stars putting in appearances (don’t forget Anthony Daniels’ C-3PO) certainly seems to suggest a bit more consistency of the franchise as a whole.
