Study Finds That Food Deliverers Are Eating Your Food
Food delivery apps including UberEats, Grubhub, DoorDash and Postmates are all the rage these days. Many people are using these services to have their favorite restaurant food delivered to their homes.
In fact back in 2018 Forbes published an article that stated:
In an 82-page report published last week titled “Is the Kitchen Dead?” investment bank UBS echoed many other studies and made a bullish case for increased global online food ordering sales. UBS forecast delivery sales could rise an annual average of more than 20% to $365 billion worldwide by 2030, from $35 billion.
That was not the most surprising prediction made in that report is that:
There could be a scenario where by 2030 most meals currently cooked at home are instead ordered online and delivered from either restaurants or central kitchens.
A new study published last week by US Foods among other things examined bad behavior by deliverers which showed that 28% have actually eaten food from a delivery order.
Have you noticed your order being a few fries short?
That is probably why customers in the survey stated they would like tamper-evident labels to address that exact problem.
The study surveyed almost 500 drivers and over 1,500 customers from four of the most popular food delivery services in the country; Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash, and Postmates.
My advice is if they do not have tamper proof packaging then you might want to skip the home delivery and perhaps stick to the delivery of pizza.
