A major construction project in Albion will continue into 2018 and is now back open to through traffic.

The Michigan Department of Transportation announced that a two-block stretch of M-99, which is Superior Street in downtown Albion between Michigan Avenue and Vine Street, will be back open with asphalt through the stretch.

The remaining construction completed in late September is paved by bricks. MDOT plans on returning to the remaining area to pave with bricks next spring or summer. The department stated that overnight temperatures near or below freezing could impact the quality of the bricks being placed.

The construction on M-99 began in April with five city blocks detoured around due to the project.

Next year’s construction would take six weeks.
